A really good strategy for doing calculations with signed decimals is to get a rough estimate first of what your answer will be. So, for example if we are calculating: - 7.52 + - 6.17, we should first round each decimal number to the nearest integer.
We would then get: -8 + - 6 which we can then calculate as: - 8 - 6 = - 14. So from this estimation, we can see that the answer for our original problem: - 7.52 + - 6.17 will be a negative decimal number.
